Gameplay supports all common video formats including MP4, MOV, and M4V. It works with videos in any aspect ratio.
Processing time depends on video length and device performance. Most videos under 5 minutes process in less than a minute.
Currently, the blur effect is automatically optimized for the best look. Custom blur controls may be added in future updates - submit a feature request if you'd like this!
Gameplay is optimized for short-form content. We recommend videos under 10 minutes for best performance.
Processed videos are saved to your Photos library. You can then share them directly to social media or export them elsewhere.
Yes! All video processing happens on your device. No internet connection is required.

Overplay needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later, and runs natively on Macs with Apple silicon and with Intel processors.
Anything macOS can play, including MP4, MOV and M4V files with H.264, HEVC or ProRes video. Drag a file onto the window, or press ⌘O. Drop a video onto a tab to replace it or open it in a new tab.
Lower the opacity with ⌘[ and ⌘] (⌘0 sets 70%, ⌘\ toggles 100%). Keep Overplay above other windows with ⌘⇧A, and turn on click-through with ⌘⇧T so clicks go to the app underneath. To use Overplay again, switch back to it (for example with ⌘Tab) and press ⌘⇧T.
Press I and O to set In and Out markers; the section between them loops while playing, and the readout shows its length in time and frames. Many screen and console recordings use a variable frame rate and skip frames now and then. "Real" frames are the ones actually in your file; "dropped" frames are the ones a steady frame rate would have had but the recording skipped.
Subject isolation (S, or the toolbar button) finds people, characters and animals. Static scenery such as buildings, trees or terrain usually isn't detected. Try clicking the middle of the subject, or pause first: isolation is exact when paused and followed live while playing. Press Esc to cancel picking, and S again to show the whole video.
No, your videos never leave your Mac. Overplay sends only anonymous usage statistics, such as which features are used. You can turn them off in Overplay › Settings › Privacy. See the privacy policy for details.
